Pastor Smith approached me during the lunch break at a Church Management Conference in Texas. His response to the morning session was, “According to what you have taught our Church books are not in compliance. But, I will not engage your services today because I need to go home and pray about it.” My response was probably not what he wanted to hear. I asked the Pastor if he really believed the Bible, to which he assured me he did. It was then I shared with him Romans 13:1-6, and how God commands us to obey the laws of the land. I also shared with him Scripture concerning good stewardship (especially of God’s money and records). His next excuse was simply, “We are a small church. Regardless of what I do, it doesn’t seem to grow. I have been praying about it for years, but God has never told me that I need to get Church books compliant.” He was not ready for my next answer to his excuse. |
